LibreOffice is free: the requirements for installation
LibreOffice free for Windows
The software and hardware requirements to install LibreOffice on a Windows system are as follows:
- Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 with KB3063858 update, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 to 2022, Windows 10 or 11 (LibreOffice is fully compatible with Windows 11)
- Pentium-compatible PC (Pentium III, Athlon, or newer system recommended)
- 256 MB of RAM (512 MB of RAM recommended)
- Up to 1.5 GB of available disk space
- 1024x768 resolution (higher resolution recommended), with at least 256 colors
Administrator rights are required for the installation process. It is recommended to back up your system and data before uninstalling or installing software.
For some features of the software - but not most - Java is required. Java is particularly necessary for Base.
LibreOffice free for Apple - macOS
The software and hardware requirements to install LibreOffice on an Apple macOS computer are as follows:
- macOS 10.15 or newer
- Intel or Apple silicon processor
- 512 MB of RAM
- Up to 800 MB of available disk space
- Graphics device 1024x768 with 256 colors (higher resolution recommended)
It is recommended to back up your system and data before uninstalling or installing software.
Notes:
- For some features of the software - but not most - Java is required. Java is particularly necessary for Base.
- Due to an issue, the following restrictions apply with Java: on macOS 10.10 and newer, the JRE is not found, the JDK is required.
- LibreOffice 4.3 can still run on OS X 10.6+, but please note that support ended when version 4.3 was retired on May 27, 2015.
LibreOffice free for GNU / Linux
Generally, it is recommended to install LibreOffice using the installation methods recommended by your specific Linux distribution (such as the Ubuntu Software Center, in the case of Ubuntu Linux). In fact, LibreOffice may already be installed by default during the installation of your Linux operating system.
The LibreOffice installers provided by the community are intended for users with special needs and for extraordinary cases.
The software and hardware requirements to install LibreOffice on Linux are as follows:
- Linux kernel version 3.10 or higher
- glibc2 version 2.17 or higher
- Pentium-compatible PC (Pentium III, Athlon, or newer system recommended)
- 256 MB of RAM (512 MB of RAM recommended)
- Up to 1.55 GB of available disk space
- X server with a resolution of 1024x768 (higher resolution recommended), with at least 256 colors
- Gnome 3.18 or higher, with at-spi2 package 1.32 (required for assistive technology [AT] support), or another compatible graphical interface (such as KDE, among others)
